Biography

David Ngog is an attacker for Liverpool in the English Premier League. Though he has mainly been played as a right-winger when he has come on at Liverpool, he is a striker in the Nicolas Anelka mould. His electric pace and his clinical finishing ability have made him one of the most prolific strikers in all of France’s national youth teams, and he is expected to make a big impression over the coming years.

Childhood

David Ngog was born on 1st April 1989 in the outskirts of Paris. His parents are of Cameroonian descent, and moved across to Paris in search of a better quality of life before David had been born. He is cousin to current French international Jean-Alain Boumsong, and took his athletic attributes off his father. By the age of 15, Ngog was making waves in French football – finishing as top scorer in various regional and international tournaments, guaranteeing himself a place in the France national-side youth teams.

Early Career

Ngog was signed up at a very young age by Paris Saint Germain, who had a reputation for nurturing good young talents. Ngog performed well in the youth leagues – indeed performing well enough to represent his country internationally at each and every level. Ngog caught the eye of both PSG managers Guy Lancombe and Paul Le Guen, though because he was a young inexperienced striker he was mainly thrown on late in the game, when his fresh legs could be used to punish tiring legs.

Current Club

Having watched Ngog progress from gangly teenager to a Championnat performer, Rafa Benitez’s scouts identified David as a player of some potential. After discussions with Gerard Houllier (the manager of the French Academy teams), Liverpool put a bid of £1.5m in for David, who arrived on the British isles on July 24th 2008.

His early performances have been promising, and he is currently happy to be learning all he can from Fernando Torres and Dirk Kuyt.

International

David Ngog has been prolific at all France youth-team levels, ever since bursting onto the scene as a talented but raw 15 year old. Success in various tournaments as he has gown up has got Ngog used to that winning feeling, whilst he has been in the thick of it with an impressive 20 goals in 30 youth-team performances.

A call-up to the U-21 team in August 2008 should see David remain at the fore-front of everyone’s minds, in spite of his move away from his home-country, and it won’t be long before he is scoring for the first-team on a regular basis.
