Biography

Danny Welbeck is a striker for Manchester United in the English Premier League, on loan at Preston. He is a tall player with ‘gangly’ legs, and has been compared to the likes of Nwankwo Kanu and Emmanuel Adebayor, in spite of being so young. He has represented England at U-18 and U-19 levels, and is being tipped to be a great player in the future.

Childhood

Danny Welbeck was born on 26th November 1990 in Longsight, Manchester. Because of his parent’s Ghanaian descent, Welbeck has the choice of playing for Ghana or England. He has long been tipped to make it to the top of the game – from the age of 14 he was included in the England Schoolboys teams.

Early Career

Welbeck signed up to Manchester United on his 14th birthday, and worked his way up the youth teams, playing in the U-18 side that went on to reach the FA Youth Cup final.

Current Club

Danny Welbeck made his first-team debut in January 2008 in Abu Dhabi, whilst playing in Sami Al-Jaber’s testimonial. As a substitute for Anderson, he entered the fray and won a penalty. Sadly he missed the resulting penalty, but not before impressing the United faithful with his determination and willingness to take it himself.

His proper debut came on September 23 2008, in the league cup, and he performed well enough to win an appearance in the Premier League in November 2008, when he came on and scored in United’s 5-0 rout of Stoke City. He moved up the striker pecking-order because Fraizer Campbell was on loan at Tottenham, and will be hopeful of having an impact whilst Campbell is away until the end of the season.

International

Danny Welbeck started representing England as a 14 year old Schoolboy, and has represented them at all levels since. At U-18 level he was the leading scorer, which led to a call-up to the U-19 European Championships in July 2008. Injury kept him out of the side, but he remains a key player in England’s youth ranks.
